Portrait of a Nation – Part 1

29th July 2010, in Work (3 Comments)

You might have noticed a few tweets about Portrait of a Nation. It’s a new personal project that I’m doing. The aim of the project is to take portraits of the widest variety of South Africans from very diverse backgrounds. It’s a long term project and I hope to eventually have hundreds if not thousands of portraits of South Africans on the site. Perhaps in a year or two I will publish a book with a selection of the work. It’s a tough decision to choose which one portrait eventually makes the site. Here is a selection of portraits I’ve shot so far. Please take a look at the site, portraitofanation.co.za

Firstly… I love the concept… it’s brilliant! But I suppose what is more inspiring is the way that you have interpretted it… I particularly like the composition, lighting, overall colour and feel of your boxer photograph… and just wanted to say – well done – not that you need the praise:)

brilliant concept. I am amazed how you have captured the individuals in this piece. I think the lights definetly adds to the effectiveness of this project….
