Superstroke

Conrad is the only member and founder of the contemporary African art movement, Superstroke. He explains the movement to me last night over his Black Label in a colourful Greenside restaurant dubbed Mama’s Kitchen.
Inspired by Takashi Murakami Superflat, the movement is a mashup of ‘picasso-fication’, violent harsh brush strokes and pop art. “You can’t be an artist without your own Theory and Manifestro.” I remember sometime last week skimming over a five thousand word Manifesto in my inbox. Conrad has 4120 twitter followers. “There’s only a 10% hit rate, it’s not a great strategy”. Some days he follows and unfollows up to two thousand people. Every few weeks I spot a flurry of tweets and #superstroke hashtagging from him in Tweetdeck.
“Andrew! You should start have a sub-movement called Superblurr.” Superblurr is a photograph taken while violently shaking the camera.
Conrad lives and paints in Downtown Jozi. You can follow him on twitter or see his blog.
I took this picture of him and his brother in his Studio in Downtown Joburg last year.
